Gov. Jerry Brown sells his Oakland home for a loss

The younger Brown never lived in the mansion with his parents, but visited and studied for the bar in a small room on the top floor. For now, though, home is officially the renovated governor's mansion. Jerry Brown is no longer an Oakland homeowner. Brown's father, the late Edmund G. "Pat" Brown, was the last governor to spend any significant time there. The governor and First Lady Anne Gust Brown closed on the sale of their Oakland Hills home last week, completing the journey that began late last year when the first couple moved into the historic governor's mansion in Sacramento.
