The Gorakhpur hospital tragedy has sparked a national outcry, with opposition parties demanding the resignation of chief minister Yogi Adityanath. The court was responding to a public interest litigation seeking setting up of a special investigation team (SIT) to probe into the matter. The Uttar Pradesh government has, however, so far not attributed the deaths to lack of oxygen supply. UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday told Union health minister J.P. Nadda, who sought a report from the state health department regarding deaths in BRD Medical College, Gorakhpur, that all aspects of the incident are being examined. The Central government has also sent a team of doctors to assess the ground situation and submit a report.
