According to police, one incident took place in the Devi Karumariamman temple located at Sukkal Street on Venkatapuram. “The scaffolding around the gopuram was not removed and we suspect that the thieves managed to climb up the gopuram using it,” said a police source. On Monday, temple priest Periathambi found few men fleeing with four kalasams. Police said some businessmen would pay good money for the kalasams, which they believe are rendered to iridium, after being exposed to lightning for many years.
