Google plans to buy smartphone maker HTC: Report


The belligerent manufacturer recently released the well-received HTC U11 and is set to build Google's Pixel 2 line of smartphones along with LG. According to a report by Chinese publication Commercial times, Google is either planning to become a strategic partner with HTC or thinking of buying the company's smartphone division outright. The Motorola smartphone division was never profitable for Google - it operated at a 248 million dollar loss during Q3 2013 and 192 million dollars the year before. In August 2017, HTC reported losses for the 9th consecutive quarter amounting to 64 million dollars despite its recent flagship HTC U11 being widely appreciated by critics.
