Google and Facebook extend work-from-home plans until 2021 to protect employees from coronavirus

Google and Facebook have told most employees to keep working from home for the rest of the year as part of a response by the tech giants to the deadly coronavirus pandemic. Chief executive Sundar Pichai told Google staff at an all-hands meeting that its remote work policy will be extended until 2021, the Silicon Valley giant confirmed Friday. Google's CEO Sundar Pichai had previously said that workers would continue to work from home until June 1. Both Google and Facebook employees were advised to start working from home in March. Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg announced in April that the company was canceling physical events attended by more than 50 people until June 2021.
