Invitations to a Google-sponsored event at GDC went out in mid-February, but details were scant, other than the place and time – March 19, at 10am PST. The prevailing theory is that Google plans to announce a game streaming service and potentially a game-console like device that would take on Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo (and others) in the lucrative gaming market. This patent issued to Google (Pub. : US 2019/0030425 A1) details plans for a game controller that can send and receive signals to and from a host device with a local processor and storage or to a network. Renders of the Google game controller have also hit Twitter, which have sparked some spirited discussions regarding its ergonomics (the renders don’t make it look very comfortable to hold / use).
