The new off-route feature, spotted by tech site XDA Developers , reportedly sends an alert to your phone every time you get sidetracked from the intended course by 500 meters. (Image: Google)There is also an option to "Share live trip", which allows your friends to see your route and track your progress in real time. The feature is currently being tested in India, but Google could presumably decide to roll it out more widely if the trial is a success. Last month, Google rolled out a new feature in Google Maps that alerts drivers when they are approaching a speed camera , bringing it into line with sat nav systems from TomTom and Garmin. The feature has been available in the US since January, but is now also available throughout the UK.
