more-inAn umbrella body of goods transporters has given a call for a nationwide, indefinite truckers strike from the midnight of April 7 against the increase in third-party motor insurance premium rates that came into force on Sunday. In the latest revision, the increase for goods carrying vehicles and public carriers (other than 3-wheelers) range from 12% to 26%. A consensus among the major bodies representing transporters on the strike, however, is yet to emerge. Head (Product Development) of SBI General Insurance Puneet Sahni said the financials of the companies are bound to remain more or less similar as the quantum of awards were also on the rise. Meanwhile, transporters have not given up hope, continuing to look up to IRDAI to moderate the rates, something it did last year.
