Goodbye to a Queenstown icon

Future Bars general manager Bert Haines. Photo: Mountain SceneAfter almost 35 years as an iconic steak and seafood restaurant in Queenstown Mall, Britannia is changing course. Operator Future Bars, which also owns Rhino’s Ski Shack below, is closing it at the end of this month then turning it into a “high-energy” Mexican restaurant/bar. Future Bars general manager Bert Haines says “what we found is there’re a lot more players in the market, new fitouts and new everything”. Future Bars also operates Little Blackwood and Minus 5 Ice Bar in Queenstown’s Steamer Wharf complex.
