Railways has extended the use of the demonetized Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes to buy tickets and for onboard catering. Railways, on Monday, extended the use of defunct Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes, which have been demonetized by the Modi government, to purchase tickets and for onboard catering till November 24. The use of demonetized currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 denomination was extended up to November 24, and all concerned have been instructed to comply with the latest instruction, according to a senior Railway Ministry official. However, the precautionary measures, like refund of cancelled tickets would be done through ticket deposit receipts (TDR) and not in cash among others, would continue, he added. The railways had announced stop giving refund for cancellation of tickets in cash and instead issuing ticket deposit receipts (TDR).
