PASIR PUTIH: Convicted drug trafficker Umi Azlim Mohamad Lazim, who is imprisoned in China, has had her life sentence commuted to a 16-year jail term. The good news was relayed to her family here by Umi Azlim, who spoke to her father Mohamad Lazim Jusoh on the phone last week. “We were happy when she informed us that the Chinese government has commuted her sentence due to good behaviour. In China, all death sentences are reviewed by the Supreme People’s Court. Sentences with a two-year reprieve may be commuted to life imprisonment upon good behaviour.
