Police will no longer investigate every crime which happens in Scotland as part of a new cost-cutting measure. But the policy has been branded "dangerous" by some critics, and was highlighted as "SNP surrendering to criminals." Taking a proportionate response to crime is not a new concept but we’ve never had a national process or standard across Scotland. Every crime report is subject of individual assessment of threat, harm, risk, vulnerability and for proportionate lines of investigation and evidence, and that won't change. We police by consent in Scotland and whatever policing model Police Scotland adopt has to be to give a better service not less.
