According to research conducted by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) between 2018 and 2019, more than 1.2 million bulky items go to landfill or incineration in Ireland each year. Much of this is furniture and very little of it is beyond repair. It’s simply no longer wanted. Many such items are suitable for upcycling (and even the truly banjaxed can be harvested for raw materials) but the process requires infrastructure.
