Mokobbir is the only Gono Forum candidate to be elected to parliament under the party’s ‘rising sun’ symbol after winning the Sylhet-2 seat in the 11th national election. On Saturday, a special messenger of the party handed the notice signed by Gono Forum General Secretary Mostafa Mohsin Montu to Mokobbir, the party office said. Another Gono Forum leader, Sultan Mohammed Mansur Ahmed, was elected MP and subsequently took oath of office before being expelled. Mokobbir followed in the footsteps of Sultan Mansur and took his oath on Apr 2 in defiance of the party’s stance against it. The party subsequently decided to issue a show-cause notice to Mokobbir at a meeting of its central committee on Apr 20.
