On Saturday, Gennady “GGG” Golovkin will defend his WBC and IBF middleweight belts against Englishman and IBF welterweight champ, Kell “The Special One” Brook, at the O2 Arena in London. A week later, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, will try to wrest the WBO junior middleweight crown from Liam Smith at AT&T Stadium in Dallas. Boxing enthusiasts are chafing because they would much prefer to see Golovkin (35-0, 32 knockouts) and Alvarez (47-1-1, 33 knockouts) facing one another in a middleweight title-unification bout. While Golovkin owns three of the 160-pound title belts, Alvarez is the Ring magazine and lineal middleweight champion. Alvarez has a huge and enthusiastic fan base in Mexico and is now the fight game’s most marketable personality.
