The Goldwater Institute, conservative think tank, on Tuesday sent a letter to the City of Flagstaff in support of Rob Wilson, the owner of Timberline Firearms and Training. The letter comes after the city rejected a 10-second ad for Timberline Firearms that Wilson had hoped to have played on TVs in the Flagstaff Pulliam Airport. In a letter to the city, a lawyer with the Goldwater Institute alleged the rejection of the ad amounted to a violation of Wilson’s right to free speech. The controversy comes as the Flagstaff City Council is looking to update and clarify the city’s policy on advertisements. The Goldwater Institute alleges that the new policy is being created to specifically target Wilson and Timberline Firearms and Training.
