Goldeyes pay their share for ballpark, says consultant

The Winnipeg Goldeyes say their $1-per-year lease is a great deal for the city, once you consider all of the company’s other fees and investments. A consultant hired by the Goldeyes found the team actually paid more in annual fees than many of its similar U.S. counterparts, once rent, taxes and capital costs are factored in. Consultant John Dittrich also states that the Goldeyes paid $9.6 million more to build their stadium than the average amount those other teams contributed to their own facilities. The report comes as the city attempts to renegotiate its lease with Riverside Park Management, on behalf of the Goldeyes. A city report notes they remain divided on several key issues, including the lease price, which the city once suggested should rise to $150,000 per year.
