Traders said a firm global trend amid signs of political uncertainty ahead of an Italian referendum this weekend mainly led to a rise in the prices of precious metals here. Globally, gold rose 0.47% to $1,177.10 an ounce and silver by 1.46% to $6.72 an ounce in New York in Friday’s trade. In addition, scattered buying by jewellers to meet ongoing wedding season demand at domestic spot market supported the upmove, they said. In the national capital, gold of 99.9% and 99.5% purity shot up by Rs250 each to Rs29,250 and Rs29,100 per 10 grams, respectively. On the other hand, silver coins were unaltered at Rs74,000 for buying and Rs75,000 for selling of 100 pieces.
