Gold mine manager sentenced for growing cannabisSUPPLIEDA West Coast gold miner was growing cannabis for pain relief, a court has heard. Police prosecutor Don Abbey said police found 12 mature high quality cannabis plants growing in Shrives' West Coast house. The plants were growing in a "professional growing operation" in an indoor room set up with lamps, fertiliser and water pipes. Judge Paul Kellar said the cannabis operation had a "degree of sophistication" but the police had accepted he was not growing it to sell to anyone else. Shrives' lawyer told the court the cannabis plants were for Shrives' own use.
