The gold bars altogether weigh seven kilograms, said Lt Col Mohammad Selim Reza, commanding officer of BGB 49 battalion, in a press briefing around 12:30am on Saturday. Acting on a tip-off, a team of BGB 49 conducted a drive in the area and saw two men trying to cross the border over to India. Realizing the presence of BGB, the duo dropped a polythene bag which carried the gold bars wrapped in clothes and managed to escape over to India. The process of filing a case and depositing the gold bars at the police station is underway, said the BGB officer.
