Amalia Hall and Stephen de PledgeChamber Music NZ NCMAThursday 30 July 7.30 pmReviewed by Margot HanniganSupplied/Stuff Violinist Amalia Hall appeared with pianist Stephen de Pledge at the NCMA on Thursday. Amalia Hall and Stephen de Pledge have undertaken a rigorously demanding tour from Invercargill to Auckland in just twelve days. A consoling, deeply meaningful piece of music recorded in New Zealand by Amalia Hall and Stephen de Pledge from their homes during lockdown. But the highlight of the evening was Camille Saint-Saens' Violin Sonata No 1 in D Minor (1885). But Amalia Hall proved herself a goddess of the violin, and de Pledge encouraged her to play faster and faster.
