Gloucester City Council had initially said it would not work with those two newspapers as part of its new campaign to bring tourists to the city because it deemed them to be ‘hate’ publications. But this has since been removed from the final Visit Gloucester Tourism and Destination Marketing Plan 2022 after council leaders were quizzed over the strategy. Speaking at the full council meeting on March 24, Councillor Tree Chambers-Dubus (L, Moreland) asked about the changes. “My view, and I believe the view of everyone in this council chamber, is that everyone should be treated with dignity but everyone should have the right to free speech.”
