There have been over 27 million cases since the start of the pandemic in December 2019, a period of nine months. The first 10 million cases were reached on June 27 and the first 20 million on August 9. India has become the epicenter of the pandemic as daily COVID-19 infection rates continue their ascent unabated. With over 4.28 million cases, it is second only to the United States, with 6.48 million cases.
