NEW YORK: Global coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases amounted to 74,087,090 with 1,646,687 deaths worldwide as of 6:28 p.m. Wednesday (9:28 a.m. Thursday in Manila), according to data from Johns Hopkins University. Global cases hit 70 million on December 11. The United States remains the worst-hit nation, accounting for more than 22 percent of the global cases. The tally marks the third time in the past week that the United States has crossed the 3,000 deaths threshold. Over the last two weeks, the number of new Covid-19 cases in 24 hours has climbed above 200,000 for 11 out of 14 days.
