Global Carbon Neutrality Ranking: Morocco among the front-runners – The North Africa Post

Morocco remains in the top positions of the global ranking of countries leading the way toward carbon neutrality, as it climbs to the 8th rank in the 2025 Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI), which was presented on Wednesday at COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan. The Kingdom surpasses several leading countries in this field, such as Germany, Norway, or Sweden. Morocco continues to be a leader in this ranking, recognized as a major regional player in sustainable development and greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction, according to experts from the Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI). In the report presenting the 2025 ranking of this international index, they praised Morocco’s prioritization of sustainable development, as demonstrated by its commitment to achieving 52% renewable energy in the national energy mix by 2030 and its significant progress in developing solar and wind projects. The CCPI, which evaluates countries based on four criteria — greenhouse gas emissions, renewable energy, energy use, and climate policy — is an independent tool that assesses the climate action performance of 63 countries, including individual EU member states and the EU as a whole (27 countries).
