OTTAWA — The Canadian foreign ministry says it is aware of reports Monday that a Canadian has been kidnapped in Libya. “We are aware of the troubling, yet unconfirmed report of the abduction of a Canadian citizen in Libya,” said Global Affairs Canada spokesperson Michael O’Shaughnessy. “We are diligently pursuing all appropriate channels.”Italy’s foreign ministry said it learned Monday two Italian workers were kidnapped in Libya, but declined to provide further details, citing the “delicateness” of the situation. But the ministry said it had no information to provide about a third person, though some media reported the third person was a Canadian national. The statement from the Ghat municipality quoted Mayor Koumani Mohammed Saleh as saying that al-Qaida is not behind the abduction.
