Landlord Amandeep Sekhon appealed to the Scottish Government as he believed the condition of the backcourt, where he said rubbish had been dumped, had improved since the extension was built. However, a reporter, appointed by Scottish Ministers, has dismissed the appeal as he found there had been a breach of planning rules. He said the backcourt was “plagued with all manners of rubbish, including nappies, white goods, food waste, construction materials and dog faeces”, which “attracted rats and posed a severe health hazard”. “The presence of such waste and vermin so near a food premises is not only unsightly but also highly dangerous”, Mr Sekhon added. Enforcement officers said the extension reduced “the usable area of this backcourt” for residents and had been “formed of inappropriate materials”.
