Surat: A pre-teen girl's body carrying "86 injury marks" was found in Surat nine days ago, arousing suspicion she had been held captive, tortured and raped over several days, police said on Sunday. The girl is believed to have been 9 to 11 years old. Passers-by spotted the body in the bushes around a cricket ground in the Gujarat city on April 6. Ganesh Govekar, a doctor at the hospital where the post-mortem was conducted, said the "86 injury marks seem to have been caused between one week and one day before the recovery of the body, suggesting she was held captive, tortured and possibly raped". A case has been registered against unidentified people for murder, rape, causing hurt and sexual violence against a child.
