The victim, named Fatema Akhtar Mim, was a second standard student at a local madrassa, said Akbar Shah Police Station OC Alamgir Mahmud. Police recovered the girl’s body from the second floor stairwell of a six-storey building in Akbar Shah’s ‘World Bank Colony’ on Sunday night. “At first we could not identify her, but then we found her family,” OC Mahmud said. “An initial investigation suggests she was raped before her murder.”The owner of the building lives in Dhaka. The girl’s home is a half kilometre away from the place where her body was found, SI Shafiul Alam Munshi had said at the time the body was recovered.
