Wine exporter Constellation Brands New Zealand has sold its Marlborough-based Riverlands Winery to family-owned Giesen Group. Riverlands was across the road from Giesen’s existing Marlborough winery and while the facility was no longer suited to Constellation’s growth plans, its capacity for smaller production runs was a great fit with Giesen’s production plans, Constellation said. The sale of the winery is planned to settle in mid-December this year, in time for the upcoming harvest. The company said that, coupled with a decline in demand for pinot noir, had driven the company’s decision to divest the Riverlands winery. Kyle Skene, Giesen's general manager, said the facility would speed up its own growth plans.
