Ghana president to adopt Ethiopian boy

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia - Ethiopia's federal court is expected next week to approve a request by Ghanaian President Jerry Rawlings to adopt a three-month-old Ethiopian boy who would be his second adopted Ethiopian child, an official said Friday. Tesfaye Abraha, senior child affairs expert in the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, which handles all requests from foreigners to adopt Ethiopian children, said court approval was part of the normal procedure. "The president had expressed a wish to adopt a three-month-old boy as a brother for the girl he and his wife adopted about two years ago," Tesfaye said. Rawlings, 52, and his wife Nana Konadu Agueman have a three-year-old adopted Ethiopian girl. Swedish, Danish, Belgian, German, Australian and Swiss couples have also adopted Ethiopian children.
