1 spot in 2019 World Press Freedom IndexFile photoGhana has lost its status as Africa’s best-ranked country in the World Press Freedom Index mainly due to the murder of investigative journalist Ahmed Hussein-Suale. In the 2019 World Press Freedom Index report prepared by Reporters Without Borders, Ghana ranked 27 as against 23 in 2018. “A group of investigative journalists had to spend part of 2018 in hiding after producing a documentary about Ghanaian soccer corruption. A ruling party parliamentarian who had been named in the documentary publicly threatened one of the journalists without ever being sanctioned. In 2014 Ghana had 27 and made it to the 26 spot in 2016 and 2017 respectively.
