Germany’s Big Airline Bailout Is a Mixed Blessing


Airline giant Lufthansa has gotten most of what it wanted from the German government. For investors, that is both a relief and a problem. On Monday, Berlin approved a €9 billion ($9.8 billion) bailout of Europe’s biggest airline by revenue—one of the biggest Covid-19 rescues yet. In exchange, the German government will receive a 20% stake in the carrier and two supervisory board seats.
