German Marquez And Rockies Expected To Finalize A 5-Year, $43 Million Contract Extension

GettyGerman Marquez made his second start of the season Wednesday for the Colorado Rockies and his first since it was reported he had agreed to a five-year, $43 million contract extension. While holding Tampa Bay scoreless for seven innings in what became a 1-0 win in 11 innings for the Rockies, Marquez was dominant overall, dazzling at times and very gritty when he had to be. Marquez, who turned 24 on Feb. 22, would have been initially eligible for arbitration after this season before this contract extension, which awaits finalizing. Security for his family undoubtedly influenced Marquez’s decision to agree to the five-year deal, which was the second notable recent contract extension by the Rockies. Freeland told the Denver Post he has not spoken with the Rockies about a contract extension but hopes he and Marquez "can pitch together for a long time."
