Lockdown was quiet for Geraldine Bellyful so the organisation has been proactively promoting what it offers to ensure those who could benefit from its free meals don’t miss out. Geraldine, the smallest of 24 branches throughout the country, cooks and delivers free meals to families with newborn babies or those with young children who may be ill or do not have family support. Geraldine branch co-ordinator Rachel Snow said the organisation received just two referrals over two months from the start of lockdown, usually it received about 10 a month. Geraldine Bellyful only covers its area, in which it fund raised, and there are no other active branches in South Canterbury. Recipients of the food are referred by health professionals, family and friends or can self-refer.
