Simmerling was far more successful in her four years of ski cross; winning nine World Cup medals. She crashed and broke three vertebrae in her first ski cross season, but rehabbed in time to compete at Sochi, where she was 14th. “I didn’t expect to be starting from scratch in my pursuit to the 2020 Games,” said Simmerling. “With my personal successes in cycling and with my teammates, I’m really excited about the prospect of being on a team again.
