The first of three memorial gatherings for George Floyd is a service in Minneapolis set for Thursday afternoon, kicking off a series of events to mourn the man whose death empowered a national movement to call for change in policing methods and a national dialogue on race. Protesters gathered Monday at a memorial for George Floyd at the spot where he died outside Cup Foods on East 38th Street and Chicago Avenue in Minneapolis. Protests continued across the United States following Floyd's death, which occurred as he was restrained by Minneapolis police officers on May 25. This morning, I joined my @SenateDems colleagues in a moment of silence to honor George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, & Breonna Taylor that lasted 8 minutes, 46 seconds.
