Last month, an Egyptian court sentenced belly dancer Sama al-Masry to three years in jail for inciting “debauchery” on social media over posts deemed sexually suggestive. Video technical director, Ramdane Rahmouni, who handled the recent interview of President Tebboune with France 24, was also jailed. All it took for the prosecution was to show that he got paid an honorarium to report on behalf of France 24. Ait Kaci is also accused of having covered political events in Algeria for the benefit of Lebanon’s Median Group, also working for France 24. On 4 July, Rahmouni, who heads up communications agency MSCom, was hired by France 24 to manage the technical aspects of an exclusive interview with President Tebboune.
