The general prosecution announced on Tuesday that it deposited EGP 4bn in the Egyptian state treasury. The sum comprises fines paid and money confiscated from embezzlement and corruption cases, as well as assets from retrieved state land. Last May, Partners for Transparency (PFT) tracked the number of corruption cases in Egypt, counting 75 of them. Meanwhile, judicial authorities in May investigated 48 corruption cases, while 15 were under trial and seven were adjudicated. In a similar context, a committee was assigned to retrieve infringed upon state lands, following President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi’s call for the police and military to end illegal land acquisition.
