A former Venezuelan general has turned himself into the US authorities a day after prosecutors in Washington indicted President Maduro and several cabinet members on drugs charges. General Cliver Alcalá, 58, boarded a US jet that had been sent to retrieve him from Colombia. He is in New York and is understood to be helping prosecutors. An ally of the late president Hugo Chávez, General Alcalá broke ranks with Mr Maduro in 2016. For the last two years he had been living with his family in Barranquilla, Colombia.
