An Extraordinary Gazette was issued by the President yesterday under the PTA to rehabilitate and de-radicalize those who are arrested over extremist activities. The gazette says the new regulations may be cited as the Prevention of Terrorism (De-radicalization from holding violent extremist religious ideology) Regulations No. 01 of 2021. It said the objective of these regulations will be to ensure that any person who surrenders or is taken into custody over violent extremist religious ideologies is dealt with in accordance with the provisions of the Act. Centres to be known as “Reintegration Centres” to be set up for the purpose of rehabilitating the surrendees and detainees.
