Hasina on Apr 11 told parliament she would rather see the quotas abolished than repeated protests that cause public sufferings. They are now demanding swift gazette notification on the issue now that the prime minister has made it clear that quotas will be banished altogether. The prime minister had spoken of special arrangements to provide members of small ethnic groups and people with disabilities with jobs. The government is contemplating about the employment process for those group members, said the secretary when asked about the issue. He hoped a gazette notification ending the quota system will be issued ‘quickly’.
