Shrewsbury Town boss Gavin Cowan is assessing his "bloated squad" before their "huge" match with fellow League Two strugglers Barrow on Tuesday. A 2-0 defeat at Colchester on Saturday left Cowan's side in 22nd, a point and place above the relegation places, but also just a point and place behind their next opponents. Michael Appleton brought in six players during January before his dismissal at the end of the month, leaving Cowan with a big job to find his best XI. "The squad is bloated, there's too many players in the squad, but we need to assess the group and look at the performances," Cowan told BBC Radio Shropshire. "Just a little bit more quality going into that final third and I think we'll be alright."
