James Neesham's first delivery of the second session was to Pujara and it nipped away as the ball whisked past his blade. The New Zealand bowlers also tested Virat Kohli but the Indian captain managed to shake off the pressure with a couple of crisply driven fours. Here it came in the form of loose deliveries to Kohli who gleefully converted them into fours. Encouraged, Williamson slotted Santner from the other end but a solid Pujara and a Gambhir survived the early blow, settling their nerves. The left-armer was rewarded for being persistent when he angled one across that thudded low on the back pad of Gambhir.
