Gatwick to try out old coffee cups

Almost three billion single-use cups were used in the UK last year CHRISTOPHER FURLONG/GETTY IMAGESStarbucks and the environmental charity Hubbub are trying out takeaway cups at Gatwick airport that may have been used before. The plastic reusable cups may show signs of wear and tear but will have been washed and sterilised. Customers will be allowed to borrow a cup and told to return it to one of five collection points before boarding their flight. The aim is to cut down on single-use cups. Almost three billion single-use cups were used in the UK last year and only 4 per cent were recycled.
