As London's Gatwick airport was closed for over 36 hours shortly before Christmas because of over 50 drone sightings, the big question many people were asking was why wasn't anti-drone technology deployed immediately? Military and government agencies are reported to have used Israeli-based Rafael technology to trap the drone and bring it down safely. But the Sussex and Surrey policeforces could not use an anti-drone device like this without special authorisation. Several anti-drone technology companies are focusing on ways to prevent a hostile drone from reaching its target by interfering electronically. Reports that DroneShield actually brought down a potentially hostile drone at the games have not been confirmed by Australian police.
