SEN. Sherwin Gatchalian has pushed for the promotion, importation and restoration of vintage cars and motorcycles given the ingenuity and craftsmanship of the Filipino workforce. The senator recently filed Senate Bill (SB) 2396 or the proposed "Vintage Vehicle Regulation Act" to spur economic activity through vintage vehicle restoration. Gatchalian on Sunday said vintage car restoration can help micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and serve a niche market here and abroad. He noted many vintage cars being restored in the Philippines were being sold in Australia 10 times of their original price. Gatchalian said some notable local car enthusiasts who are into car restoration have found it to be a lucrative business.
