Gas prices have gone up 35 cents in the past month as Labor Day approaches. Looking over a longer time frame, one of the major reasons fuel analysts say gas prices have increased is due to increasing crude oil prices. California gas prices are more sensitive to prices on international oil markets than the domestic market because the Golden State relies on overseas fuels. Despite higher gas prices, AAA expects to see a busy Labor Day weekend. De Haan said the blaze about 30 miles northwest of New Orleans should not affect California gas prices.
