At the same time, Metrolinx has cancelled buses because downtown traffic is so bad they can’t get to Union Station. We should modernize this old car-based infrastructure to be as useful as possible in the 21st century by building a dedicated busway on the Gardiner. A highway lane can carry 2,000 vehicles an hour (moving about 2,300 people in the GTA). A busway lane can carry 20,000 people an hour. Building a busway lane on the Gardiner would also be cheap and fast as a busway isn’t structurally that different than a road lane.
