Spain’s Rafael Nadal and Garbine Muguruza achieved a unique feat this month as for the first time since 2003, two players from the same country grabbed the No 1 ATP and WTA rankings in men’s and women’s category. Nadal entered the US Open 2017 as the top-ranked player and according to Baseline, with Roger Federer bowing out in the quarterfinal round; he is likely to stay at the top. On the other hand, with Karolina Pliskova losing in the fourth round, the Wimbledon 2017 winner Muguruza will rise to the top spot in the women’s rankings for the first time.
